Editorial Illustrations for Liberally Magazine for Poetry Creative Writing Projects
Liberally Magazine commissioned me to create illustrations to complement two texts for their summer 2020 features.
The first was for the text "Small Touch" by Rosie Hamilton. Her text focuses on how during the times of COVID-19 when we are unable to spend time with people, we miss the small physical touches that we normally take for granted. See your text and the final illustration at Liberally here: https://artsliberally.com/liberally-news/small-touch
The second was for a poem "I'd deliver this myself but the world isn't working" by Dylan Booth. The poem is about disconnection and how separation aggravates already tense relationships. See the full poem at Liberally here: https://artsliberally.com/liberally-news/id-deliver-this-myself
For each of these illustrations, I collaborated with Daisy, the founder of Liberally, to select text and elements from the writings to illustrate. After a sketch review, I drew the two to match the mood of the writings--warm for the "Small Touch" illustrating a small touch of a cheers glass clink, and cool and desperate for "I'd deliver this myself..." illustrating a frustrating interplay of not wanting to make things worse.
